There’s always a new idea around every corner.

Q: "The poster states that all entries must be delivered to Electric Pencil by September 25, 2009. There is no mention of the 18th of September being the deadline."

A: The September 18 date is the last day for Early Entry submittal. It is not a deadline, per se. Entries submitted after the September 18 date will be accepted, but will be assessed a $50 late fee. The Entry Deadline is September 25 and no entries will be accepted after that date. The following paragraph on the poster, under "Late Entry Policy" notes that "Late entries will be accepted from September 18, 2009 to September 25, 2009." Also, on the front of the poster, it clearly states: "Last day for entries before late fee: September 18, 2009"

Q: "How do we handle "campaign" materials? Are they considered as separate elements?"

A: If you want your entry to be judged in total, i.e., an identity system, then you would enter it as a total campaign and number each board as "1 of 3, 2 of 3, etc." If, however, you want the logo to be judged independently from a brochure, for example, then you would enter it as 2 separate entries. The downside with entering everything under one campaign is that if a judge liked your logo, but didn't think the other pieces were worthy, they would have to reject the entire campaign and could not just accept just the logo as it was not entered in as an individual entry.

Q: "I have a question regarding the website category on the design entry form. Would a web commercial displayed on a website's home page qualify?

A: Entries for the Website category will be judged for the overall design of the website in its entirety. Individual elements (banner ads, display ads, logos, etc.) will not be considered for individual submittal. You are welcome to submit the entire website and credit all who were involved.

Q: "I just graduated this past May, but I have some student work that I did from Sept. 08 until May 09. Even though I have already graduated, can I still submit those pieces in the student category?"

A: Student work which was completed prior to your graduation date of May 09 may be entered as "Student Work" ($25). Any work created after your graduation date would need to be entered as a regular professional member entry ($40).

Q: "Also, as a Graphic Design BFA thesis piece for the University of Manoa, my group and I did an enviornmental signage piece. I noticed in the last Hawaii 5-0 rule booklet that: [Student work must abide by the "Print" criteria]. Does that mean we would not be able to enter the enviormental signage piece?"

A: Your BFA environmental signage project may be entered as "Student Work." The notation regarding "abiding by the Print category" is an oversight and was not meant to exclude any non-print work.
